dc.description.abstractEsta pasantía de investigación tiene como objetivo describir por medio de las fuentes históricas los procesos de creación de las instituciones para el tratamiento del cáncer en Santander entre los años 1958 y 1985. Para alcanzar este fin se recurre a la teoría institucional, a través de la cual se explican los procesos de transformación de esta institución en el tiempo. Uno de los objetivos que se persiguen es exponer como protagonista principal de estos hechos al doctor Francisco Espinel Salive, quien fuera pionero en esta región en la aplicación de tratamientos con materiales radioactivos. Especializado en el Instituto Nacional de Cancerología, llegaría a Bucaramanga hacía el año de 1958, donde fundaría con ayuda de las elites, la primera unidad de radioterapia y cáncer en el extinto Hospital San Juan de Dios. Presentar su obra es muy importante para la historia de la medicina en el país, ya que con esta se expone el estudio de la asimilación y la institucionalización de una técnica científica como la radioterapia, en un contexto donde el cáncer no era la prioridad sanitaria del país. áncer en la ciudad, el desarrollo real ocurrió en la década de los años sesenta en el cual se crearon que pulsaron y promovieron la fundación del pabellón de caridad Jácome Valderrama para enfermos terminales; la Liga de Lucha contra el Cáncer; y el Comité zonal de lucha contra el cáncer, instituciones precedentes en la creación de la Unidad de Oncología y Radioterapia del Hospital Ramón González Valencia en 1979.
dc.description.abstractenglishThis internship research aims to describe through the historical sources the processes of creation of institutions for treating cancer in Santander between 1958 and 1985. To achieve this end, shall be used institutional theory to explain the processes of transformation of this institution over time. One of the objectives pursued is to expose as the main protagonist of these facts Dr. Francisco Espinel Salive, who was a pioneer in the region in the application of treatments with radioactive materials. Specializing in the National Cancer Institute, he reach Bucaramanga towards the year 1958, where he founded with the help of the elites, the first radiation and cancer ward in the close down Hospital San Juan de Dios. Present his work is very important for the history of medicine in the country, as this study of assimilation and the institutionalization of a scientific technique is presented such as radiation, in a context where the cancer was not the health priority of the country. Cesar Castaneda said that "despite the early start of the fight against cancer in the city, the real development occurred in the decade of the sixties in which specialized institutions were created." Therefore in this paper we describe the actions and processes that pulsated and promoted charity foundation hospice in Jacome Valderrama Pavilion; League Against Cancer; and the Zonal Committee to combat cancer, previous institutions in the creation of the Oncology and Radiotherapy ward at Ramón González Valencia Hospital in 1979.
