dc.description.abstractLos desastres son hechos históricos, sociales y con un alto contenido de representaciones discursivas y simbólicas. La prensa, en este sentido, se convierte en constructor y condicionante de los imaginarios sobre el desastre. Esta disertación analiza la construcción periodística de los desastres en el diario El Tiempo (1979-1987) desde las esferas de la historia cultural ambiental y la historia de los desastres. Se hace uso de técnicas de análisis del discurso para revisar los distintos géneros periodísticos y se problematiza en referencia a las narrativas y estereotipos reafirmados y contrariados, así como de tres elementos problematizadores: la construcción de la idea del desastre, las respuestas y las responsabilidades. Se concluye que las narrativas estuvieron ligadas al cómo, cuándo y dónde ocurren los desastres, sirviendo como elementos de reafirmación de estereotipos como la marginalidad, la pobreza y la tugurización; mientras que se convierten en insumos para la transformación legislativa y el avance en la cultura de gestión del riesgo. Se propone el uso del concepto vulnerabilidad comunicativa como aporte teórico metodológico para investigaciones futuras.
dc.description.abstractenglishDisasters are historical and social events with a high content of discursive and symbolic representations. The media, in this sense, becomes a constructor and conditioner of imaginaries about the disaster. This dissertation analyses the journalistic construction of disasters in the newspaper El Tiempo (1979-1987) from the spheres of environmental cultural history and the history of disasters. It makes use of discourse analysis techniques to review the different journalistic genres and problematises the narratives and stereotypes reaffirmed, as well as three problematizing elements: the construction of the idea of disaster, the responses, and the responsibilities. It is concluded that the narratives were linked to how, when and where disasters occurred, serving as elements of reaffirmation of stereotypes such as marginality, poverty and slumisation, while they become inputs for legislative transformation and progress in the culture of risk management. The use of the concept of communicative vulnerability is proposed as a theoretical and methodological contribution for future research.
