La membrana celular (frontera biológica): ¿un límite de discontinuidad entre la materia viva y la materia "inerte"?

dc.description.abstract¿Dónde termina la vida? Este interrogante tiene de manera implícita el concepto de límite entre la materia animada e ―inanimada‖. La ciencia ha demarcado dicha frontera en la membrana citoplasmática teniendo en cuenta que la unidad estructural-funcional de cualquier ser vivo es la célula. Las pesquisas sobre las membranas se han centrado bajo la luz de la modernidad, reduccionismo y predictibilidad de los fenómenos. Partir del supuesto de que ésta es un límite ya es un equívoco atribuible a una tradición de pensamiento en ámbitos diferentes de la biología; observarla como una ―frontera‖ entre la materia viva y no viva sin tener en cuenta el flujo constante de materia-energía que sucede entre la membrana con el interior y el exterior de la célula, junto a la auto-organización propia de la misma (autopoyesis), es ahondar aún más el sesgo de comprensión del fenómeno. Por otro lado, no existe un trasfondo real de diferencias entre los componentes moleculares del Líquido Extracelular y el Líquido Intracelular respecto de los constituyentes de la membrana; ver a ésta como una máquina de engranajes acoplados no es adecuado y sería mejor verla como una maquínica oscilante de maquínicas osciladoras (concepto deleziano). La membrana debería, quizás, ser mirada como un territorio espacio-temporal (concepto deleziano) que sufre territorialización y desterritorialización de sus maquínicas con otros territorios; un nicho molecular que hace parte de un nicho mayor que denominamos célula, singularidad de orden y cumple función de límite, pero de una vida respecto de otras vidas y del entorno externo dominado por el caos. El enfoque de las ciencias a la membrana está profundamente influenciado por las ideas evolucionistas, eventos jerárquicos que conducen a su selección por fuerzas exclusivamente ajenas a ellas (exogenia), direccionalidad hacia el ―perfeccionamiento‖ de la vida, como si los organismos no presentaran fuerzas intrínsecas (endogenia).
