dc.description.abstractEsta investigación tiene como objetivo identificar y estudiar el sentido que le atribuyen los estudiantes a la variablefl cuando trabajan algebra elemental. La pregunta orientadora de esta investigación fue la siguiente: ¿Cuál es el sentido que los estudiantes de séptimo grado poseen de la variable en actividades algebraicas? Para responder a esta pregunta fueron realizadas unas observaciones y entrevistas a cinco estudiantes de séptimo grado de un colegio del municipio de Floridablanca. Estas observaciones y entrevistas fueron registradas en el diario de campo y, algunas, audio-gravadas y trascritas. Después de escuchar las voces de los estudiantes y de percibir los errores que estos cometían en el trabajo con álgebra elemental (Capítulo II), fueron estudiados los sentidos que los estudiantes le otorgan a la variable en un intento de significación (Capítulo III). Este estudio muestra, entre otros resultados, que los estudiantes le otorgan sentidos a la variable dependiendo del contexto en que esta sea presentada. Para ellos la variable siempre fue representada por una letrafl, la cual pudo ser una cosafl, una letra que acompaña númerosfl o un número escondidofl. También, en el trabajo muestra que el conocimiento de los errores básicos en el álgebra es importante para el profesor, porque lo provee de información sobre la forma en que los estudiantes interpretan los problemas y cómo utilizan los diferentes procedimientos algebraicos.
dc.description.abstractenglishThis research work has as main objective to identify and study the meaning given to the variablefl by the students when they are working on elementary algebra. The guiding questions was: What is the meaning that students of seventh grade have for the variable in algebraic activities? To answer this question several observations and interviews were performed to five seventh grade students from a school of Floridablanca municipality. Some of the observations and interviews were done on the field and others were recorded and then transcript. After listening to the students' voices and being aware of the mistakes that they made in the elementary algebra activities (Chapter II), the meaning that the students give to the variables were studied when they try to establish a meaning. This study shows, among other results, that the students give different meanings to the variable according to the context in which it is presented. For the students the variable was always represented by a letterfl, which could have been a thingfl, a letter that goes next to numbersfl or a hidden numberfl. In addition this research work shows that the knowledge of the basic errors in algebra is very important for the teacher, because it provides information about the way students interpret the problems and how they use different algebraic procedures.
