dc.description.abstractEl continuo crecimiento de las actividades agropecuarias en los páramos se ha identificado como una de las principales causas de contaminación difusa sobre los cuerpos de agua, afectando el equilibrio del ecosistema y la salud de las personas que se abastecen de ellos. Este estudio caracteriza las actividades agropecuarias típicas en una unidad hidrográfica de aproximadamente 215 ha, ubicada en el Páramo de Berlín, Colombia; y analiza la influencia de estas sobre los parámetros de nitrógeno total (NT), nitratos (NO3-), conductividad eléctrica y pH en el agua superficial del ecosistema mediante un monitoreo en época lluviosa. Las concentraciones de nitratos y nitrógeno total halladas en el agua superficial se encuentran en un rango de 0.11 a 2.77 mgNO3--N/L y 0.43 a 3.94 mgN/L, respectivamente, y varían espacialmente incrementando a medida que el curso del cauce atraviesa las zonas intervenidas dentro de la unidad hidrográfica. Si bien estos valores cumplen con los niveles sugeridos internacionalmente para consumo humano y uso agrícola, el impacto de dichas actividades en la calidad del agua superficial es notorio al tratarse de una unidad hidrográfica pequeña y podría agravarse a medida que se expanden los cultivos en el territorio, por lo cual resulta necesario implementar prácticas agrícolas más eficientes que logren mitigar el incremento de la contaminación.
dc.description.abstractenglishThe continuous growth of agricultural activities in paramo regions has been identified as one of the main causes of non-point-source pollution on water bodies affecting the balance of the ecosystem and the health of the people who are supplied by them. This study characterizes the typical agricultural activities in a hydrographic unit of approx. 215 ha in Páramo de Berlín, Colombia; and analyzes its influence on the parameters of total nitrogen (TN), nitrates (NO3-), electrical conductivity and pH in the surface water of the ecosystem through a rainy season monitoring. The concentrations of nitrates and total nitrogen found in surface water range from 0.11 to 2.77 mgNO3--N/L and 0.43 to 3.94 mgN/L, respectively, and vary spatially as the stream crosses intervened areas. Although these values satisfy the international levels suggested for drinking water and agricultural uses, the impact of these activities on the quality of surface water is notorious as it is a small hydrographic unit and could worsen throughout the territory as crops expand, for which it results necessary the implementation of more efficient agricultural practices that manage to mitigate the increase of contamination.
