dc.description.abstractEl presente trabajo realiza un análisis integral del contexto económico, social y ambiental del departamento del Cesar tras la llegada de la multinacional Drummond a la región y a la puesta en marcha de la extracción de carbón por parte de esta. En primer lugar, se efectúa una evaluación de los diferentes indicadores económicos en donde la minería de carbón ha influenciado tales como el PIB, las exportaciones, regalías, consumo interno y precios del mineral. Así mismo se discriminan aquellos municipios que están relacionados plenamente con esta actividad, y a su vez, se enfatiza en la participación directa que ha tenido la empresa Drummond en las variaciones de dichos indicadores en el transcurso de los años. En segundo lugar, se estudian los efectos en materia social que a grandes rasgos componen el índice de desarrollo humano, las necesidades básicas insatisfechas y la inversión de las regalías. Allí se aprecian variables como educación, salud, empleabilidad, vivienda, servicios sanitarios, violencia y corrupción, y al mismo tiempo se relacionan estas mismas con la compañía estadounidense Drummond, con el fin de conocer el compromiso que esta ha tenido con los habitantes de las zonas donde ha operado desde su llegada al país. Por último, se describen las repercusiones medioambientales en la región dada la actividad minera. Por lo que se examinan indicadores relacionados con la calidad del aire, la calidad del agua y la calidad de los suelos y se reseñan las políticas ambientales y los compromisos empresariales que la Drummond debe ejecutar en sus acciones.
dc.description.abstractenglishThis paper make offers a comprehensive analysis about the economic, social and environmental context in the department of Cesar after the Drummond Company’s arrival at the region and the setting up of coal extraction. In first place, it is carried out an evaluation of the different economic indicators where coal mining has impacted the GDP, exports, royalty, internal consumption and mineral prices. Furthermore, the municipalities that are fully related with this mining activity are discriminated and, in its turn, it is emphasized in the direct involvement of the Drummond Company in the variation of those indicators along the years. In second place, it is studied the effects in social field that comprise the Human Development Index, the basic unmet needs and the investment of royalties. There it can be seen variables like education, health, employability, housing, sanitary services, violence and corruption, and at the same time themselves are related with the American company Drummond, all of this for the purpose of know the commitment that they have with the locals around the areas where the company has operated since its arrival to the country. Finally, it is described the environmental impact in the zone because of the mining activity. Given the above, it is considered indicators related to quality of air, quality of water and quality of soil, and it is reviewed the environmental laws and the entrepreneurial commitment that Drummond must run in their operations.
