dc.description.abstractenglish | Type I Diabetes Mellitus is a chronic disease known for causing high glucose levels in the bloodstream (Hyperglycemia) of the person with this condition, due to a complete insufficiency of insulin segregation from the pancreas. It has been estimated that there are approximately 425 million patients with diabetes in the world, fact that reasserts the need for better treatments for this kind of disease. The objective of this project is to implement on MATLAB/Simulink the equation system that defines the behavior of several type I diabetes mellitus patient blood glucose dynamics. This model can be set up via a Graphical User Interface allowing the selection of different patients, sensors and/or insulin pumps with their respective parameters in each simulation, using tuned up UVA/Padova models of the T1DM simulator. This system is conditioned to be able to communicate with the dSPACE hardware in real time. Currently, the UVA/Padova model of the T1DM simulator is the only model of type I diabetes patients which has earned the approval of the U.S FDA (Food and Drug Administration). Thus, the validation of an insulin dosage controller in real time operation conditions for this model, can be accepted as a possible substitute for the defective pancreas of a type I diabetes mellitus patient. Said validation is ardware which aims to allow the fast and efficient test of several controllers. *
