dc.description.abstractenglish | The South Brae Field is located in the southwestern part of the South Viking Graben in the UK North Sea that has been a prolific oil field since 1979. There are two producing formations, the Kimmeridge Clay Formation and the Brae Formation. However, the main target reservoir in the field is the Brae Formation which is interpreted as a turbidite system deposited in deep waters during a low stand system tract. The main reservoirs are channellevee complex and sheet sands. These sandrich gravityflow deposits have been extensively studied. The reservoir quality (RQ) in every single system is controlled by different factors. This study aims to explain the diagenetic influence in the reservoir quality of the Brae Formation. To identify the role of compaction and cementation in the porosity evolution of the Brae Formation, we use a core from the Brae Oil field (A19) of 410 ft. Petrographic analysis will be used to understand the evolution of the porosity. Additionally, point counting analysis over 15 selected samples will be completed to quantify the role of compaction and cementation, and the implementation of XRay Diffraction (XRD) of clays, as well as handheld XRay fluorescence (HHXRF) will be utilized to measure the elemental composition at onefoot resolution. The XRF data will refine the sequence stratigraphic framework and define the intervals with highest RQ by the integration of unsupervised machine learning techniques. First, principal components analysis (PCA) method helped to reduce the variables in the XRF data, then, applying K- means clustering algorithm we define cluster or chemofacies to highlight intervals with high and low RQ. This comprehensive analysis using petrographic analysis, SEM, XRD, XRF and machine learning techniques helped to visualize intervals with high and low RQ compaction
