dc.description.abstractEl presente trabajo evalúa el impacto del programa SEA sobre asignaturas de matemáticas vistas por estudiantes de ciencias e ingeniería que ingresaron a la UIS en la primera cohorte de cada año entre el 2014 y 2017. El estudio se realizó empleando la técnica de pareamiento y diferencias en diferencias teniendo en cuenta las siguientes variables: las características generales del estudiante como la edad, género y programa académico al que ingresó; los resultados de las pruebas SABER 11; la caracterización realizada por el por el programa SEA de los estudiantes en las dimensiones social, salud, económica, académica y cognitiva; la nota final en las asignaturas de cálculo I, II y III, álgebra lineal y ecuaciones diferenciales; y las horas totales de beneficio del programa SEA recibidas directamente en cada asignatura. La principal conclusión del estudio es que no hay suficiente evidencia estadística para atribuir un impacto significativo del programa SEA en el rendimiento de las asignaturas matemáticas de los estudiantes de ciencias e ingeniería entre 2014 y 2016. Fue solo hasta 2017 que se encontró un impacto significativo en las asignaturas de cálculo y álgebra lineal, siempre que la cantidad de horas de beneficio exceda las 24 horas en el semestre. El estudio brinda una metodología apropiada y objetiva para evaluar el impacto del programa SEA en el desempeño académico de los estudiantes el cual se espera que sirva como referencia para estudios similares y para un análisis costo-beneficio y costo efectividad del programa SEA que permita orientar mejor los recursos del programa.
dc.description.abstractenglishIn this project was performed a statistical evaluation of the impact of the SEA program on the grades mathematic subjects for the science and engineering students. The scope was limited for students entered to the UIS University in the first cohort of each year between 2014 and 2017. The study was conducted using matching and differences-in-differences techniques taking into account the following variables: the general characteristics of the students, such as age, gender and the academic program; the results of the SABER 11 test; the SEA program characterization in the social, health, economic, academic and cognitive dimensions; the grades of mathematic subjects that includes Calculation I, II and III, Linear Algebra and Differential Equations; and the total hours of benefit of the SEA program received directly to each subject. The main conclusion of the study is that there is not enough statistical evidence to attribute a significant impact of the SEA program on mathematic subjects performance of science and engineering students between 2014 y 2016. It was only until 2017 that a significant impact was found in Calculation I subject and Linear Algebra subject, as long as the number of hours of benefit exceeds 24 hours in the semester. This study proposes an appropriate and objective methodology to evaluate the impact of the SEA program. Forward looking with an additional economic data is possible to perform a costbenefit analysis that allows a better management investment of the economic funds for the SEA program.
