dc.description.abstractenglish | Oral traditions are the way in which knowledge is transferred for Indigenous American tribes. Their narratives integrate myths that give explanations of the world that surround them and its origin, and legends of a character's journey. The written compilation and translation of these narratives is a way of preserving the language and keeping those teachings and wisdom alive. This documentary research/translation aims to help circulate the culture, symbols, and language that can be found in a corpus of fifteen myths from North American indigenous communities through their translation from English to Spanish. In addition, it aims to single out the translation approaches and techniques used so that the audience can understand the processes carried out for the end product. A source-oriented translation approach and a documentary research method were used for us to understand the meanings in the context of the narratives and therefore use the appropriate translation techniques. Results show a series of techniques that are useful for the translation of some expressions in this type of narratives. We identified literal translation as the most used technique along with the established equivalent technique in our narratives, the latter finds the equivalent expression in the target language without losing what the source text is trying to convey. In this way, the narrative is dynamic and not flat.
