dc.description.abstractCuando el Departamento del Norte de Santander formaba parte del Estado Soberano, se dio inicio al proyecto vial de la región nororiental de Colombia. En 1865 se fundó la Compañía del Camino Carretero al Puerto de San Buenaventura, actualmente Puerto Villamizar a orillas del rio Zulia. Once años después y habiéndose concluido la construcción de la carretera, en 1876 se fundó la Compañía del Ferrocarril de Cúcuta que se constituyó con el objetivo de implementar un ferrocarril sobre la ruta del camino construido previamente. Este trabajo aborda la historia de la Compañía del Ferrocarril de Cúcuta desde la construcción del camino carretero en 1865, hasta la liquidación de la Compañía del Ferrocarril de Cúcuta hacia 1959. Inicialmente se analiza el proceso mediante el cual se logró construir una carretera entre Cúcuta y Puerto Villamizar a orillas del rio Zulia que tenía el fin de facilitar el trasporte de la gran cantidad de café que se producía en la región y de paso trasladar por tierras colombianas el café producido en el Estado Táchira por la inexistencia de rutas al interior de Venezuela que facilitaran el transporte hacia Maracaibo. Posteriormente se aborda la historia de la Compañía del Ferrocarril teniendo en cuenta su fundación, el funcionamiento interno, su papel en las guerras internas de 1885 y los Mil Días y su evolución y decadencia durante el Siglo XX.
dc.description.abstractenglishWhen the Department of Norte de Santander was part of the Sovereign State, began the road project in northeastern Colombia. In 1865 he founded the Company of Carter Road to the Port of San Buenaventura, Puerto Villamizar currently on the banks of the Rio Zulia. Eleven years later, having completed construction of the road, in 1876 founded the Cúcuta Railroad Company was formed by the objective of implementing a railroad on the route of the previously built. This paper addresses the history of Cúcuta Railroad Company from building the wagon road in 1865, until the settlement of the Railway Company of Cúcuta in 1959. We initially analyzed the process by which managed to build a road between Cúcuta and Puerto Villamizar Zulia river banks was intended to facilitate the transport of the large amount of coffee produced in the region and move step by Colombian land the coffee produced in the State of Táchira by the lack of routes to the interior of Venezuela to facilitate transportation to Maracaibo. Next, they consider the history of the Railroad Company in view of its foundation, the inner workings, its role in internal wars of 1885 and the Thousand Days and its evolution and decline during the twentieth century.
