dc.description.abstractenglish | The study area corresponds to the Nunchia Syncline, which is located in the Eastern Foothills of the Cordillera Oriental of Colombia. This structure represents the deformation front on this side of the Cordillera, and is limited by the Yopal Thrust Fault to the east, and Guaicaramo Thrust Fault to the west. In this syncline are exposed mainly Miocene sediments, which belong to the Carbonera (C1-C5), Leon and Guayabo Formations. Sedimentological analysis where performed in the Carbonera, Leon and Guayabo Formations (the latter being the main objective of this study), in order to determine the tectonic influence during its deposition. The sandstones petrographic analysis indicates that most of the samples are sublithoarenites, with some quartzoarenites and lithoarenites. The measurement of paleocurrent in trough cross stratification, sole marks and ripple marks shows a major pattern of sediment transport directed towards SE during the deposition of most of the studied formations (from Carbonera through Lower Guayabo), with an reversal in flow direction toward the W-NW during the deposition of the Upper Guayabo Formation preserved in the Nunchia syncline. The interpretation of seismic reflection profiles allowed to identify sectors with thickness changes related to the growth of underlying structures below Nunchia Syncline. The collected data allows establishing a structural evolution in the Nunchia Syncline that was active during most of the Miocene. This evolution seems to be continuous, although fragmentation of the geological record shows more specific periods of tectonic activity.
