dc.description.abstractEn el área de estudio, localizada entre las veredas de San Pedro y Cantabara (municipio de Aratoca, Santander) afloran rocas del basamento metamórfico del Macizo de Santander, agrupadas dentro de la denominada unidad Esquistos del Chicamocha (unidad escindida de la Unidad Esquistos del Silgará), considerada de edad pre-Devónica. Estas rocas metamórficas pertenecen al grupo composicional pelítico, representado por cuarzo, plagioclasa, moscovita, biotita y granate como principales minerales metamórficos. Las asociaciones paragenéticas identificadas, sugieren una disminución concéntrica del pico de metamorfismo desde el Río Chicamocha (zona granate-estaurolita) hacia la Mesa de San Pedro (zona de la biotita). Sin embargo, en este último sector se reconocen esquistos cuarzo-moscovíticos con biotita suprayaciendo a filitas. Evidencias de metamorfismo de dislocación apuntan a una clara estructura termal invertida al sur de la Mesa de San Pedro. Desde el punto de vista estructural, se reconocen dos fallas que modifican la estructura termal del sector SW del Macizo de Santander: La Falla Tierra Blanca, cuya actividad pre-Jurásica causó el cabalgamiento de los esquistos sobre las filitas en el sector de la Mesa de San Pedro, y la Falla Guaimaral, que pone en contacto esquistos biotíticos milonitizados con esquistos cuarzo-moscovíticos con biotita al NW, sobre el carreteable Aratoca-Jordán.
dc.description.abstractenglishIn the study area, located between the villages of San Pedro and Cantabara (municipality of Aratoca, Santander), rocks of the metamorphic basement of the Santander Massif are exposed, grouped within the so-called Chicamocha Schist unit (unit split from the Silgará Schist unit), which is considered to be of pre-Devonian age. These metamorphic rocks belong to the pelitic compositional group, represented by quartz, plagioclase, muscovite, biotite and garnet as main metamorphic minerals. The identified paragenetic associations suggest a concentric decrease of the peak metamorphic conditions from the Chicamocha River (garnet-staurolite zone) towards the Mesa de San Pedro (biotite zone). However, in this last sector, quartz-moscovite schists with biotite overlying phyllites are identified. Evidence of dynamic metamorphism points to a clear inverted thermal structure south of the Mesa de San Pedro. From a structural point of view, two faults are recognized that modify the thermal structure of the SW sector of the Santander Massif: The Tierra Blanca Fault, whose pre-Jurassic activity caused the thrusting of the schists over the phyllites in the sector of the Mesa de San Pedro, and the Guaimaral Fault that contacts biotite-bearing mylonitized schists with biotite-bearing quartz-moscovite schists to the NW, on the Aratoca-Jordan road.
