dc.description.abstractenglish | In the northern sector of the Yariguíes mountain range in Santander, factors such as violence, changes in land ownership, market shifts, and policies, led the landscape from being dominated by large areas of pastures in the 1960s and 1970s to having a predominance of agroforestry systems with significant areas dedicated to exclusive conservation. At first glance, this change can be interpreted as a transition towards sustainability, a positive transition. However, it is valid to ask how quickly amphibian diversity recovers in sites like this or, in other words, what is the impact of positive transitions on amphibian diversity in the northern sector of the Yariguíes mountain range? To answer this question, aerial photographs from 1984 to 2022 were analyzed, and four land cover types were established; two land covers that remained over time (conserved forests and pastures) and two that resulted from positive transition (from pastures to agroforestry and secondary forests). Three sites were defined where temporary plots were established, and diurnal and nocturnal amphibian samplings were carried out using the acoustic encounter survey (AES) and visual encounter survey (VES) methodologies. A total of 738 individuals were recorded, belonging to 12 families, 16 genera, and 24 species. The family and genus with the highest abundance were Strabomantidae and Pristimantis, respectively. Conserved forests present the highest species diversity, followed by agroforestry systems and secondary forests, and finally pastures. It was evidenced that positive transitions had a positive effect on amphibian communities. Agroforestry systems and secondary forests <40 years tend to harbor species present in conserved forests, as they connect the landscape, allowing for species movement and nesting. We conclude that positive transitions increase species richness and abundance. Agroforestry systems can have a conservation value like that of secondary forests and constitute a balance between people and biodiversity.
