dc.description.abstractenglish | In order to contribute to the knowledge of the aquifers present in the city of Minas, department of Lavalleja, Uruguay; and to estimate the degree of intrinsic vulnerability of these hydrogeological units against potential sources of contamination using geographic information systems, an investigation was carried out that involved the mapping and delimitation of the outcropping geological units in the area, an inventory of wells with the in situ measurement of physicochemical parameters and a sampling of surface and groundwater for the analysis of major ions; information that was complemented with geological and climatological antecedents recorded by various authors. The results demonstrated the complex geological history of the area with the existence of 15 formations gathered in various groups, dating from the Mesoproterozoic to the Quaternary ages, with sedimentary, volcanicsedimentary, and igneous nature, some of them affected by metamorphic phenomena. These rocks were grouped into 7 hydrogeological units that are distinguished from each other by their degree of confinement, hydraulic conductivity, genesis and type of aquifer. The intrinsic vulnerability zoning and weighting methods by the SINTACS and GOD index yielded significant differences in the distribution of their categories, considering SINTACS as the best alternative due to the integration of additional parameters such as aquifer recharge, karstification and fracturing scenarios, among others, that support the knowledge of the real geological conditions of the area. In addition, the water classification showed that in the area the calcium and/or magnesium bicarbonate facies dominate, with a short residence time in the aquifer, affected by ion exchange phenomena that favor their evolution to sodium bicarbonate facies. 1
