dc.description.abstractenglish | The following research work aims to discuss how three philosophers crucial to the empiricist doctrine —Locke, Berkeley, and Hume— are grouped together in a concept known as the Insular Trinity. This is done with the purpose of removing Hume from the role of being the ultimate philosopher of empiricism, concluding with the ideas left by his predecessors. This goal will be achieved throughout three chapters. In the first chapter, the philosophical tradition's understanding of empiricism will be defined to obtain a better conception of the doctrine. This will be accomplished by using different definitions provided by philosophers such as Nicola Abbagnano, Ferrater Mora, García Morente, etc. In the second chapter, the Insular Trinity, and the perspective each member had on empiricism will be discussed. In the final chapter, Hume is separated from his role as the last figure of the doctrine that concludes with what was left by his predecessors, Locke, and Berkeley. To achieve this, his influences outside the doctrine and the points that set him apart from his predecessors will be examined.
