dc.description.abstractEn Colombia, la educación técnica y tecnológica (TyT) se ha constituido como una alternativa frente a la educación universitaria ante la creciente demanda estudiantil por distintas oportunidades de formación. No obstante, el aumento significativo de matriculados en diversas Instituciones de Educación Superior (IES) desde la última década plantea el interrogante sobre la eficiencia de estas desde una perspectiva socioeconómica. El presente trabajo pretende responder este interrogante a través de la estimación de la eficiencia de la educación TyT en Colombia entre 2018 y 2022. Con este fin, se empleó la técnica no paramétrica de fronteras parciales de orden-α con el objeto de desagregar la eficiencia entre IES públicas y privadas para analizar sus diferencias. El estudio tomó como referencia tanto los resultados de las pruebas Saber TyT aplicadas por el Instituto Colombiano para la Evaluación de la Educación (ICFES) como el registro del máximo nivel educativo alcanzado por la madre de los estudiantes como proxy socioeconómico. Los resultados de este estudio muestran que las IES públicas son en promedio más eficientes que las privadas, lo que se reafirma cuando se compara la eficiencia media entre hombres y mujeres por tipo de IES. Así mismo, los hallazgos de este estudio sugieren que desde el año 2020 hubo una reducción en la matrícula de los estudiantes más vulnerables en la educación TyT, lo que afectó los desempeños de las IES en general.
dc.description.abstractenglishIn Colombia, technical and technological education (TyT) has become an alternative to university education due to the growing student demand for different training opportunities. However, the significant increase in the number of students enrolled in various Higher Education Institutions (HEIs) since the last decade raises the question of their efficiency from a socioeconomic perspective. This paper aims to answer this question by estimating the efficiency of TyT education in Colombia between 2018 and 2022. To this end, the non-parametric technique of partial frontiers of order-α was used in order to disaggregate efficiency between public and private HEIs to analyze their differences. The study took as reference both the results of the Saber TyT tests applied by the Colombian Institute for the Evaluation of Education (ICFES) and the record of the highest educational level achieved by the students' mother as a socioeconomic proxy. The results of this study show that public HEIs are on average more efficient than private ones, which is reaffirmed when comparing the average efficiency between men and women by type of HEI. Likewise, the findings of this study suggest that since 2020 there was a reduction in the enrollment of the most vulnerable students in TyT education, which affected the performance of HEIs.
