dc.description.abstract	Este trabajo de investigación se enfocó en la exploración de las acciones y reacciones políticas y militares acaecidas en las provincias de Santander, entre los meses de abril y diciembre de 1854, luego del golpe de estado encabezado por el general José María Melo en la República de Nueva Granada. Se describen particularmente los enfrentamientos bélicos entre las tropas del ejército del “Supremo Gobierno Provisorio”, al mando del presidente golpista, general José María Melo, y las tropas del ejército del gobierno depuesto “Constitucionalista”, al mando del general Tomás Cipriano de Mosquera, durante la marcha de la Campaña del Norte a su paso por el ahora territorio de Santander. Las fuentes primarias y secundarias tomadas como base para construir este trabajo, fueron fundamentalmente los dos diarios oficiales de los gobiernos paralelos: La Gaceta Oficial y el Boletín Oficial, así como los diarios, memorias, crónicas de generales, políticos, burócratas y hombres notables de la época, y los periódicos El Artesano, El 17 de Abril, La Prensa; los fondos José Manuel Restrepo, Secretaría de Guerra y Marina, ambos del AGN, y el fondo Gobernaciones Varias del Archivo Histórico Regional UIS. En su conjunto, se tomó la historiografía nacional y extranjera producida sobre esos sucesos y, en general, sobre el siglo XIX colombiano. La narración histórica resultante expone en cinco capítulos los acontecimientos: el contexto general de reformas políticas anteriores al golpe de estado, el golpe y las medidas ejecutivas del gobierno provisorio, el desarrollo de la campaña militar con los triunfos de Melo en Zipaquirá y Tíquiza, la reorganización del ejército constitucionalista, luego las batallas en las provincias de Santander y, por último, los empréstitos y la financiación económica de esta guerra.
dc.description.abstractenglish	This research work has focused on exploring the political and military actions and reactions that occurred in the provinces of Santander between the months of April and December 1854 after the coup led by General José María Melo in the Republic of Nueva Granada, therefore, particularly describes the warfare between the army troops of the "Supreme Provisional Government" commanded by de facto president General José María Melo and the army troops of the deposed "Constitutionalist" government, commanded by General Tomás Cipriano de Mosquera during the march of the Northern Campaign as it passed through what is now the territory of Santander. The primary and secondary source taken as a basis to build this History, have been fundamentally, the two official newspapers of the two parallel governments: The Official Gazette and the Official Gazette, the newspapers, memoirs, chronicles of generals, politicians, bureaucrats and notable men. of the time and the newspapers El Artesano, El 17 de abril, La Prensa, the José Manuel Restrepo collections, the Secretary of War and the Navy, both of the AGN, the Various Governorates collection of the UIS Regional Historical Archive; As a whole, the national and foreign historiography produced on those events and, in general, on the Colombian 19th century, has been taken. The resulting historical narrative exposes the events in five chapters: the general context of political reforms prior to the coup, the coup and the executive measures of the provisional government, the development of the military campaign with the triumphs of Melo in Zipaquirá and Tíquiza, the reorganization of the constitutionalist army, then the battles in the provinces of Santander and, finally, the loans and economic financing of this war.
