dc.description.abstractEn este artículo, en diálogo con la Nueva Historia Política y la Historia de la Cultura Política, se analiza el debate sobre la definición de la ciudadanía en la Nueva Granada, priorizando la transformación discursiva y política operada durante la transición entre la monarquía y el sistema republicano. Con ese objeto se analizan (y contrastan con la historiografía especializada) algunos documentos como las actas de formación de juntas, las declaraciones de independencia y las distintas constituciones promulgadas durante el período de 1810 a 1821. Las dinámicas generadas en torno a la definición de la ciudadanía —ya fuera para la inclusión de los individuos por su condición de propietarios y rentistas o, por el contrario, para su exclusión por razones de marginalidad o dependencia económica— se abordan aquí en un contexto que evidencia notables diferencias entre las provincias de la Nueva Granada relacionadas con sus circunstancias sociales, económicas y étnicas. Así, la pesquisa se centra en los criterios entonces aplicados para la definición de la ciudadanía, los cuales condujeron a la afirmación de un tipo de ciudadano y sufragante, coincidente con un propietario ilustrado, tenido como sujeto político ideal de la naciente República.
dc.description.abstractenglishIn this article, in dialogue with the New Political History and the History of Political Culture, the debate on the definition of citizenship in Nueva Granada is analyzed, prioritizing the discursive and political transformation that took place during the transition between the monarchy and the republican system. To this end, some documents such as the proceedings of formation of juntas, the declarations of independence and the different constitutions promulgated during the period from 1810 to 1821 are analyzed (and contrasted with specialized historiography). The dynamics generated around the definition of citizenship – either for the inclusion of individuals due to their condition as owners and rentiers or, on the contrary, for their exclusion for reasons of marginality or economic dependence – are addressed here in a context that shows notable differences between the provinces of the Nueva Granada related to their social, economic and ethnic circumstances. Thus, the research focuses on the criteria then applied for the definition of citizenship, which led to the affirmation of a type of citizen and voter, coinciding with an enlightened owner, considered as the ideal political subject of the nascent Republic.
