dc.description.abstractenglish | Composting is an economical and viable alternative for the treatment of Green Waste (GW) since it reduces its volume at the same time that provides a product that improves the physical properties of the soil. The difficulty with this type of waste is its high content of lignocellulosic material which leads to a very slow degradation process. This research aims at presenting the following strategies in order to optimize the GW composting process: i) prior waste shredding, ii) addition of organic amendment, iii) two-stage composting with passive aeration system. To carry it out, two treatments were performed using different operational configuration (i.e. TA: two-stage composting and TB: traditional composting), which were composed of the same mixture (48% GW, 20% unprocessed food waste, 19% processed food waste, 13% sawdust) and phosphoric rock equivalent to 4% of the total weight of the pile. As a result of the composting process, a stable product was obtained which had germination rates higher than 80%. On the other hand, as for the confinement system used in the TA, there was no reduction in the composting process time; therefore, the TB is the best option due to the fact that it obtained greater degradation in the thermophilic phase and its implementation is simple. *
