dc.description.abstractEn este trabajo se presenta un análisis crítico de la evoluciónde los conceptos de espacio y tiempo a través del pensamiento de tres grandescientíficos y pensadores que fueron protagonistas en la historia de estas ideas:Isaac Newton, Ernst Mach y Albert Einstein. La reflexión se concentra específicamente en la dicotomía que surge ante la posibilidad de pensar estos conceptos yasea como entidades existentes por sí mismas (sustancialismo), o como existentessólo en cuanto relaciones entre objetos materiales (relacionismo). El trabajo sedesenvuelve mediante una exposición en orden cronológico que se centra funda- mentalmente en la reflexión crítica así como en el discernimiento de las posicionesfilosóficas que subyacen a los conceptos físicos involucrados. Se logra entonces daruna visión sintética del cambio ocurrido en las ideas sobre el espacio-tiempo y elcontexto filosófico en el que se dio. El objetivo ha sido perfilar un diálogo entrefilosofía y ciencia donde se demuestra una interrelación fructífera para el desarrollo intelectual humano. Se logra esclarecer algunos problemas interpretativos de la teoría clásica newtoniana, la teoría especial de la relatividad y la teoría general de la relatividad; sobretodo la manera como se explica el movimiento inercial. En la discusión, se pruebaque es posible trazar un hilo conductor en la evolución de los conceptos de espacioy tiempo, aunque también se contrastan las grandes transformaciones ocurridaspor el advenimiento de nuevas teorías y hechos experimentales.
dc.description.abstractenglishIn this work we present a critical analysis on the evolution ofthe concepts of space and time through the thoughts of three great scientists andthinkers which were main protagonists in the history of these ideas: Isaac Newton, Ernst Mach and Albert Einstein. The reflection is centered specifically onthe dichotomy arising from the possibility of thinking these concepts whether asentities existing by themselves (substantivalism), or as realities only as relationsbetween material objects (relationalism). The work is developed by means of achronologically ordered account which is mainly focused on the critical reflectionas well as on the designation of the philosophical positions underlying the physical concepts involved. Hence, we are able to provide a synthetic approach to thechange occurred to the ideas concerning space-time and the philosophical contextin which it happened. The aim has been to shape a dialogue between science andphilosophy where it is shown a fruitful relation to human intellectual development.We provide a clarification of some interpretative problems of Newton’s classicaltheory, the special theory of relativity, and the general theory of relativity; aboveall, lights are thrown on how the inertial motion is explained. Along the discussion,we prove that it is possible to outline a thread in the evolution of the concepts ofspace and time, though we also show contrasts due to the great transformationsoccurred because of the advent of new theories and experimental facts
