dc.description.abstractLa investigación es una historia institucional, económica y social del tabaco en el Virreinato de la Nueva Granada desde el primer remate del estanco en 1744 hasta la desestructuración de la renta a inicios del proceso de independencia. En ella se describe explicativamente el establecimiento y desarrollo del estanco al tabaco a partir de fuentes de archivo e investigaciones preliminares que permiten detallar los principales aspectos político-administrativos del monopolio neogranadino y sus similitudes con la política imperial de una renta de tabaco. Asimismo, en el texto se exponen las dificultades que debieron sortear las autoridades neogranadinas durante la implementación del estanco al tabaco y los medios que elaboraron para mantener el monopolio de siembra, distribución y venta del tabaco en el Virreinato. En síntesis, aunque la investigación, compuesta de seis capítulos, cierra con un apartado encaminado a particularizar los rendimientos fiscales de la renta en el Nuevo Reino de Granada, el objetivo principal de la investigación es exponer el detrás político y administrativo de las cifras contables, es decir, el cómo y por qué la renta de tabaco fue una empresa estatal exitosa. *
dc.description.abstractenglishThe research is an institutional, economic and social history of tobacco in the Viceroyalty of New Granada from the first auction of the tobacconist in 1744 to the destructuring of the rent at the beginning of the independence process. It describes the establishment and development of the tobacco tobacconist from archival sources and preliminary investigations that allow detailing the main political-administrative aspects of the neogranadian monopoly and its similarities with the imperial policy of a tobacco income. Likewise, the text describes the difficulties that the New Granada authorities had to overcome during the implementation of the tobacco embargo and the means they developed to maintain the monopoly of sowing, distribution and sale of tobacco in the Viceroyalty. In summary, although the research, composed of six chapters, closes with a section aimed at particularizing income tax returns in the New Kingdom of Granada, the main objective of the research is to expose the political and administrative behind the accounting figures, that is, how and why tobacco rent was a successful state enterprise. *
