dc.description.abstractenglish | The project studied residues from greenhouse tomato crops as biomass to produce edible mushrooms from genus Pleurotus ostreatus. Three treatments were analyzed in the mushroom harvest, T1 consisting of tomato residues (TR), T2 was a 50:50 mixture between tomato and corn residues (CR), and T3 included soil, for a total of 25 testing units, to which temperature and humidity were daily recorded Thus, it was evident that the mushroom’s growth only showed two stages: mycelium invasion and appearance from first primordium of 3 cm long because of a shortage of nutrients in the substrates, low percentages of cellulose (36,7%) and hemicellulose (35,9%) in the T1 and 26,4% of cellulose and 26,6% of hemicellulose for T2. In regard to the biomass percentages, T1 had 82,44% of it, whereas T2 contained 83,49% which provoked the slow mushroom’s growth for a six-week period in the greenhouse. On top of that, environmental conditions such as temperature and humidity fluctuated greatly. The former had values between 30°c and 50°c, and the latter varied within a 50% and 80% frame. With the substrate degraded by this fungus (SDF), it was possible to use it as bio fertilizer in the tomato crops based on the circular economy model. Once the tomato crops were harvested, the SDF was mixed with soil to have three new treatments. The appearance, shape and color of 30 tomato crops were closely observed during 3 to 4 weeks. These new tomato seedlings showed better stalk growth (20 to 50 cm long), their color was a vibrant green and each seedling had 5 to 10 leaves. With all of this, it was estimated the cost-benefit analysis from 325 kg of TR and 520 kg of CR resulting in 368,87 kg of mushroom at $11.500 (COP) and whose value was 0,13.
