dc.description.abstractPromover un entendimiento transcultural como medio de comunicación se ha convertido en un factor esencial en los procesos de enseñanza de idiomas. Los Estándares Básicos de Competencias en Lenguas Extranjeras: Inglés (Ministerio de Educación, 2006) tienen como meta resaltar la estrecha relación entre cultura y lenguaje. En este contexto, el objetivo de incrementar la conciencia cultural ha adquirido relevancia. Por esta razón, el curso de Estudios Culturales Británicos en el programa de Licenciatura en Inglés provee a los estudiantes con elementos para el entendimiento de la cultura británica y promueve el análisis crítico y la reflexión a través del cual los estudiantes son motivados a comparar y contrastar aspectos de su cultura propia con la cultura extranjera. Este enfoque hacia los estudios culturales debe implicar un componente reflexivo. Existe la necesidad de incrementar conciencia por parte de los estudiantes acerca de la importancia de manifestaciones que tienen lugar en su propia cultura así como en la cultura extranjera que se está estudiando. Por esto, el uso del portafolios parece ser adecuado debido a que estimula a la autonomía, incrementa la conciencia metacognitiva y eleva la competencia lingüística. Además, el portafolios brinda información necesaria para la valoración del proceso de aprendizaje a través de un amplio periodo de tiempo.
dc.description.abstractenglishPromoting cross-cultural understanding as means of communication has recently become an essential factor in the process of language teaching. Estándares Básicos de Competencias en Lenguas Extranjeras: Inglés (Ministerio de Educación, 2006) aim at stating the close relationship between culture and language. Within this context, the objective of raising cultural awareness has become particularly important. This is why British Cultural Studies at our undergraduate Teacher Training program is geared towards providing students with elements of understanding British culture, as well as promoting critical analysis and reflection among them whereby students are encouraged to compare and contrast aspects of their own culture with the target culture. This approach to Cultural Studies should entail a reflective component. There is need for an increased awareness on the part of students about the importance of cultural manifestations taking place in their own culture as well as the foreign culture they are studying. That is the reason why the use of portfolios seems to be highly adequate since they encourage learner autonomy, improve meta-cognitive awareness of the learning process and increase linguistic competence. At the same time portfolios provide data necessary for assessment of the learning process over an extended period of time.
