dc.description.abstractEl presente trabajo estudia el mito de Theuth y Thamus, que se encuentra en Fedro, con el objetivo de establecer cómo concibe Platón la escritura. Para realizar esto, fue necesario abordar la historia de la escritura y el relato de la invención de la escritura presentado en el diálogo Fedro de Platón. La escritura alfabética surgió en la antigua Grecia en el siglo VIII a.C., como una tecnología que produjo cambios significativos en la cultura de este pueblo. Este nuevo sistema de escritura convivió durante mucho tiempo con la oralidad, pero los griegos siempre consideraron superior el diálogo a la letra escrita. Estas circunstancias llevaron a Platón a privilegiar la oralidad, utilizando la escritura con ciertas restricciones. Incluso, realiza una crítica a las letras en su diálogo Fedro; donde narra la historia de la invención de la escritura. En este relato Theuth, un dios egipcio, inventó la escritura y, orgulloso de su invento, se lo presentó a Thamus, el emperador egipcio, quien lo consideró perjudicial para su pueblo. En este mito se encuentran presentadas dos concepciones complementarias: la postura de Thamus que considera la escritura como un falso conocimiento, y la postura de Theuth quien la considera útil para la humanidad. Por esta razón, en la presente investigación se establece la concepción de la escritura en Platón como un complemento entre estas dos visiones acerca de ella.
dc.description.abstractenglishThis project aim to study the Theuth and Thamus myth, it is described in Phaedrus, to determine the Plato’s conception about writing. For this, it is necessary to tackle the history of writing and the myth of writing invention presented in the Phaedrus’s speech by Plato. The alphabetic writing started in ancient Greece in the eighth century BCE, it was a technology that caused great changes in those people’s culture. This new writing system coexisted with orality for a long time. But Greek people always considered that talking was better than writing. For this reason, Plato considered orality more important than writing, and he was very careful with the use of writing. Even, he criticized the writing in Phaedrus’s speech, where we can find the history of writing invention. In this tale, Theuth, an Egyptian god, invented the writing and he felt proud of his invention, hence, he presented it to Thamus, an Egyptian king, who considered that it was prejudicial for the Egyptian people. In this myth we can find two complementary opinions: Thamus’s position who considers writing as a false knowledge and Theuth’s position who thinks that writing is useful for mankind. Thus, in this project the Plato’s writing conception is considered as a complement between these two views about it.
