dc.description.abstractenglish | This project aims to manufacture solid residual biomass tablets from palm oil extraction for use as biofuels. The selected residues were empty fruit bunches and mesocarp fibers, as they presented major drawbacks due to their large volumes of production and high biological activity due to their high moisture content, in addition to the interest of the industrial entity in exploring their usefulness. This biomass was subjected to prior conditioning. As a preliminary study, three types of binder were studied (bait candle, cetyl alcohol and beeswax) at different percentages within the sample (2%, 6% and 10%). 10% beeswax was the binder selected for the main study, based on improved durability and calorific value parameters compared to the other two binders. In the main study, the effect of 3 pressing temperatures (45°C, 90°C and 135°C), and 3 percentages of rachis content within the sample (15%, 50% and 85%) were evaluated on the calorific value, durability, density and humidity of the tablets with and without binder. The addition of the binder improved the first three parameters mentioned, but its homogenization with the biomass represented an energy expense to the process and high temperatures generated losses of this. The most favorable temperature for the process was 90°C, benefiting the density and durability results without representing an energy expenditure as high as 135°C. Regarding the content of empty fruit bunches , it can be used up to 50% without significantly affecting the energetic and mechanical characteristics of the elaborated tablets. Finally, it is stated that it was possible to make residual biomass tablets from palm oil extraction with adequate values in their mechanical and energy characteristics to be used as solid biofuel.
