dc.description.abstractBothriechis es un género de serpientes neotropicales perteneciente a la familia Viperidae compuesto por 11 especies, distribuidas desde Centroamérica hasta el norte de Sudamérica. Se caracterizan por tener hábitos principalmente arbóreos. Bothriechis schlegelii, conocida en algunas Regiones de Santander como Mapanare o Sapa, es la única especie del género reportada en Colombia y representa una de las especies de relevancia clínica en el país. El veneno de esta especie en Colombia ha sido poco estudiado. En el presente trabajo se realizó la caracterización bioquímica y biológica del veneno de B. schlegelii de Santander mediante la utilización de técnicas como cromatografía líquida de alta resolución en fase reversa (RP-HPLC), electroforesis de proteínas (SDS-PAGE) y ensayos de actividades biológicas In-vitro. El veneno de B. schlegelii de Santander mostró un perfil cromatográfico constituido por 35 fracciones, dieciocho de estas no presentaron bandas electroforéticas superiores a 15 kDa. Las bandas electroforéticas correspondiente a estos venenos, se observaron principalmente distribuidas en un rango de 20-50 kDa. El veneno de B. schlegelii de Santander presenta unas características electroforéticas y cromatográficas similares a las observadas en otras especies de la familia viperidae del neotrópico. Este trabajo permitió ampliar el conocimiento toxinológico del veneno de serpientes y la información proporcionada contribuirá al mejoramiento en el diagnóstico y tratamiento de los casos clínicos ocasionados por esta especie en Colombia. *
dc.description.abstractenglishBothriechis is a genus of Neotropical snakes belongs to the Viperidae family composed of 11 species, distributed from Central America to northern South America. They are characterized by having mainly arboreal habits. Bothriechis schlegelii, known in some regions of Santander as Mapanare or Sapa, is the only specie of the genus reported in Colombia and represents one of the species of clinical relevance in the country. The venom of Colombian species has been barely studied. In the present work, the biochemical and biological characterization of B. schlegelii venom from Santander was carried out using techniques such as reverse phase high resolution liquid chromatography (RP-HPLC), protein electrophoresis (SDS-PAGE), and biological activity tests In-vitro. The venom of B. schlegelii from Santander showed a chromatographic profile constituted by 35 fractions, eighteen of these did not present electrophoretic bands greater than 15 kDa. The electrophoretic bands corresponding to these venoms were mainly distributed in a range of 20-50 kDa. The venom of B. schlegelii from Santander presents electrophoretic and chromatographic characteristics similar to those observed in other species of the Neotropic viperidae family. This work allowed expand the toxinological knowledge of snake venom and provided information will contribute to the improvement in the diagnosis and treatment of clinical cases caused by this specie in Colombia. *
