dc.description.abstractLa presente investigación analiza la participación de los sectores populares de las provincias de Pamplona y Socorro durante el proceso de Independencia de la Nueva Granada, en particular el período comprendido entre 1808 y 1825. Inicialmente, se esbozan las características geográficas y demográficas de las entonces llamadas provincias de Pamplona y Socorro, identificando su territorio, composición étnica y actividades económicas. Seguidamente, se aborda la cultura política de esta sociedad con la intención de dilucidar los antecedentes, formas y móviles de participación política de los sectores populares (y su interacción con otros grupos sociales) a partir de 1810. Para ello se priorizan los levantamientos y la conformación de guerrillas como expresiones reveladoras de sus intereses y estrategias; al respecto, se tienen en cuenta las circunstancias y elementos propios de las sociedades de Antiguo Régimen, presentes en la movilización y politización de estos sectores. Para esta investigación de tipo cualitativo se utilizaron diversas fuentes documentales como cartas, memoriales y oficios que reposan principalmente en el Archivo General de la Nación y la Biblioteca Nacional, en los fondos Historia, Sección Archivo Anexo y Milicias y Marina y Sección Colonia y en el llamado Fondo Antiguo respectivamente; igualmente se consultó documentación publicada o édita. El trabajo constituye un aporte a la historia del actual Nororiente colombiano durante las primeras décadas del siglo XIX, haciendo énfasis en otros actores sociales y acogiendo las nuevas perspectivas que se han venido desarrollando en la historiografía dedicada a la Independencia y al siglo XIX latinoamericano.
dc.description.abstractenglishThis research analyzes the participation of the popular sectors of the provinces of Pamplona and Socorro during the process of Independence of the Viceroyalty of New Granada, particularly the period between 1808 and 1825. Initially, the geographical and demographic characteristics of the then called provinces of Pamplona and Socorro are outlined, identifying their territory, ethnic composition, and economic activities. Next, the political culture of this society is approached with the intention of elucidating the antecedents, forms, and motives of political participation of the popular sectors (and their interaction with other social groups) from 1810 onwards. To this end, priority is given to the insurrections and the formation of guerrillas as revealing expressions of their interests and strategies; in this regard, the circumstances, and elements of the Ancient Régime societies, present in the mobilization and politicization of these sectors, are considered. For this qualitative research, several documentary sources were used, such as letters, memorials and official documents that are kept in the General Archive of the Nation and the National Library, in the History Collection, Annex Archive Section and the Militia and Navy and Colony Section and in the so-called Old Collection respectively; published or edited documentation was also consulted. The study constitutes a contribution to the history of Northeastern Colombia during the first decades of the 19th century, emphasizing other social actors and considering the new perspectives that have been developed in the historiography dedicated to the Independence and the Latin American 19th century.
