dc.description.abstract	El presente trabajo es el resultado de una pasantía de investigación que se adscribe directamente a los objetivos del proyecto de investigación “La migración antillana: Colombia y los inmigrantes caribeños en tiempos de la United Fruit Company (1899-1945)”. A partir de la revisión de los periódicos El Deber y Vanguardia Liberal en la década de 1930, destacamos la conexión de Barrancabermeja al circuito migratorio del Gran Caribe en función del establecimiento de la Tropical Oil Company y la industria petrolera en la subregión ribereña de Santander. Su calidad de puerto fluvial permitió la circulación de inmigrantes extranjeros hacia Santander a través de la navegación por el río Magdalena, complementado por la relativa cercanía del departamento a la ruta terrestre marabina, dio lugar al establecimiento de conexiones políticas, económicas, sociales y culturales que traspasaron los límites fronterizos de la Región y la Nación. El establecimiento de estas redes a través de la ruta migratoria del Gran Caribe acercaron a la prensa bumanguesa a discursos e ideas de carácter antiimperialista y a referenciar el contexto geopolítico vivido en América Latina a partir del establecimiento de enclaves extractivistas de multinacionales norteamericanas. Dando como resultado la construcción de una imagen negativa sobre el inmigrante industrial estadounidense desde la prensa revisada quien, por su relación a la Tropical Oil Company y a su nación de origen, fue proyectado como un elemento a rechazar en Barrancabermeja y en el departamento de Santander.
dc.description.abstractenglish	This work is the result of a research internship directly aligned with the objectives of the research project "Antillean Migration: Colombia and Caribbean Immigrants in the Times of the United Fruit Company (1899-1945)." Based on a review of the newspapers El Deber and Vanguardia Liberal in the 1930s, we highlight Barrancabermeja's connection to the Greater Caribbean migratory circuit due to the establishment of the Tropical Oil Company and the oil industry in the Santander riverside subregion. Its status as a river port allowed the movement of foreign immigrants to Santander via navigation on the Magdalena river. Complemented by the department's relative proximity to the Maracaibo land route, this led to the establishment of political, economic, social, and cultural connections that transcended regional and national borders. The establishment of these networks along the Greater Caribbean migration route brought anti-imperialist discourses and ideas into the Bucaramanga press, highlighting the geopolitical context experienced in Latin America following the establishment of extractive enclaves by North American multinationals. This resulted in the construction of a negative image of the American industrial immigrant in the media. Due to his connection to the Tropical Oil Company and his nation of origin, he was portrayed as a target of rejection in Barrancabermeja and the department of Santander.
