dc.description.abstract	Comprometida con el mejoramiento de la calidad de los profesionales de Ingeniería Industrial de la Universidad Industrial de Santander, la Escuela de Estudios Industriales y Empresariales reconoce la necesidad de conocer y definir las principales características de sus estudiantes con el propósito de formular e implementar las estrategias necesarias que permitan una formación mucho más adecuada y efectiva, de acuerdo a las condiciones de los mismos y a los requerimientos del mercado laboral. Este proyecto presenta un estudio descriptivo transversal en el tiempo con estudiantes matriculados en el segundo semestre de 2011 que ingresaron a partir del primer periodo académico de 2006 hasta el primer periodo académico de 2011. El documento contiene la descripción del perfil de los Estudiantes de Ingeniería Industrial basándose en factores sociodemográficos, hábitos de estudio, actividades extracurriculares y determinantes institucionales, la descripción de cinco cohortes bien diferenciadas entre sí agrupándose por parejas de semestres académicos y un análisis de contingencia donde se contrastan con el promedio académico ponderado los principales aspectos que pudieran incidir en el desempeño académico de los estudiantes. Como resultados del proyecto se presenta la tabulación de los factores predefinidos y las diferentes descripciones de tipo general, por cohortes y por intervalos de promedio
dc.description.abstractenglish	Commited to improving the quality of professionals in Industrial Engineering from the Universidad Industrial de Santander, the school of industrial and business studies recognizes the need to define and know the main characteristics of their students, in order to desing implement the necessary strategies to enable much more appropriate and effective training, according to their conditions and labor market requirements. This project presents a transversal descriptive study with students enrolled in the second half of 2011 that entered from the first academic period 2006 to the first academic period of 2011. The document contains the description of the profile of Industrial Engineering students based on demographic factors, study habits, extracurricular activities and institutional determinants, the description of five distinct cohorts grouped by pairs of academic semesters and a contingency analysis, where the main aspects that may affect the academic performance of students are contrasted with the weighted GPA. As a result of the project, tabulation of the predefined factors and different descriptions including general profile, profile per cohort and profile per average interval, are presented.
