dc.description.abstract	El presente documento tiene como objetivo hacer un recorrido por el estado del arte de la documentación histórica de edificios con escáner láser terrestre; las fuentes de los errores que se pueden presentar igualmente, las técnicas de registro y georreferenciación existentes. Luego proponer una metodología detallada de cómo desarrollar el trabajo en campo y el procesamiento de los datos obtenidos utilizando como caso de estudio uno de los edificios emblemáticos de la Universidad Industrial de Santander como lo es el edificio de Ingeniería Mecánica. El escáner láser terrestre es una tecnología nueva que se ha venido posicionando como un equipo habitual en todo tipo de proyectos de ingeniería. Con aplicaciones en diversas áreas, como son: topografía, minería, cartografía, arquitectura, en la documentación de accidentes de tránsito, y muchas otras aplicaciones en las que se puede utilizar este equipo Además por la gran captura de detalles que se obtiene cuando se realizan escaneos con estos equipos y que se pueden obtener modelos tridimensionales que son fieles reflejos del objeto o estructura objeto de estudio, se ha trasladado con gran éxito al campo de la conservación del patrimonio cultural, revolucionando la forma como se documentaban estos objetos o estructuras. Todo esto pese al gran costo de adquisición de estos equipos y a la alta demanda de software especializado para el procesamiento de los datos obtenidos. 1
