dc.description.abstractLa Independencia significó la fractura de las relaciones políticas de América con España, la eclosión juntera, y el conflicto entre bandos regionales que pugnaban por el ejercicio de la soberanía y la independencia respecto de sus anteriores cabeceras de provincia. Y en este telón de fondo, la sociedad, integrada por sujetos y familias que establecieron redes de relaciones para ocupar y poseer los cargos en los diferentes estamentos de la sociedad de Antiguo Régimen. Uno de ellos, la Iglesia, el principal estamento religioso, social, político, económico y simbólico que facilitó el establecimiento de la monarquía en América y que, tras años de establecimiento, encontró su propio asidero a partir del reconocimiento de las gentes. Como no era ajena al entorno, los movimientos de independencia también la afectaron, a nivel estamental y particular, en cuerpo de los eclesiásticos que la integraban. En esa medida, el objetivo de esta investigación es identificar y develar la participación de los eclesiásticos del obispado de Cartagena de Indias durante la Independencia de la ciudad. Así como identificar las formas de participación de sus miembros y la influencia que pudieron, o no, generar en la sociedad cartagenera del siglo XIX.
dc.description.abstractenglishThe Independence Movement meant the fracture of the political relations of America with Spain, the emergence of Juntas, and the conflict between regional factions that fought for the exercise of sovereignty and independence with respect to their previous provincial capitals. And against this backdrop, society, made up of individuals and families who established networks of relationships to occupy and hold positions in the different levels of the Old Regime society. One of them, the Church, the main religious, social, political, economic, and symbolic establishment that facilitated the establishment of the monarchy in America and that, after years of establishment, found its own footing based on the recognition of the people. As it was not alien to the environment, the independence movements also affected it, at the estate and private level, in the body of the ecclesiastics that made it up. To that extent, the objective of this research is to identify and reveal the participation of the ecclesiastics of the bishopric of Cartagena de Indias during the Independence of the city. As well as to identify the forms of participation of its members and the influence that they could, or could not, generate in the Cartagena society of the nineteen century.
