dc.description.abstractEl presente trabajo de grado tiene como principal objetivo realizar una descripción de la estructura económica de Santander y del su sector importador. Inicialmente, se hace un recorrido por los principales modelos de Comercio Internacional, conceptualizando el término de globalización. Seguido a ello, se realiza un análisis de la estructura económica del departamento de Santander sustentado en factores de tipo macro, meso y micro; y en variables como PIB, inflación, empleo, sistema financiero, ciencia y tecnología, infraestructura y composición del tejido empresarial local. Posteriormente, es examinado el sector externo de Santander, haciendo principal énfasis en el sector importador, logrando mostrar resultados acerca de su composición y comportamiento, resaltando su tendencia al aumento, durante el período 1996 – 2001, revelando cuales son los sectores que presentan mayor dependencia de las compras al exterior, al tiempo que se estima la variación de las mismas, estableciendo lo principales países proveedores. Finalmente, se realiza la estimación de indicadores de competitividad internacional, los cuales buscan determinar el grado de ventaja o desventaja de los sectores económicos del departamento en cuanto a la competencia con el exterior. Los resultados revelan que buena parte de las actividades económicas locales no compiten con las importaciones y son importadoras. De igual manera, la estructura económica de Santander, se basa en el sector terciario y presenta una débil capacidad industrial.
dc.description.abstractenglishThe current degree work has as a principal objective to fulfil a description about the economical structure of Santander and its importing field. Initially, it makes an overhauling through the principal models of the international trade, giving a concept to the term Globalization. Immediately after, it makes an analysis about the economical structure of the department of Santander founded on the factors macro, meso and micro; and in variables as RIP (Raw Internal Product), inflation, employment, financial system, science and technology, infrastructure and the composition of the local company net. Subsequently, it IS examined the external field of Santander, making a principal emphasis on the importing field, attaining to show results about its composition and behavior, standing out its tendency to the rising, between 1996-2001, revealing which fields present a high dependence on foreign purchases, at the same time that it is estimated their own variations, establishing the principal provider countries. Finally, it is made an estimation of international competitiveness indicators, which try to determine the level of advantage or disadvantages of the economical fields in the department with regard to the external competition. The results reveal that a great deal of local economical activities don not compete with the importation and they do import. In the same way, the economical structure of Santander, IS based on the third field and presents a weak industrial capacity.
