dc.description.abstractDatos sedimentológicos y químicos obtenidos del análisis de 193 muestras colectadas en el interior y litoral de la Bahía de Cartagena con ayuda de un equipo multimuestreador de sedimentos blandos y de una draga tipo Van Veen, permitieron establecer las siguientes observaciones: Una clasificación textural y composicional de los sedimentos en base a sus características granulométricas y al porcentaje de Carbonato de Calcio contenido en ellos. La asociación de términos correspondientes a la clasificación textural sugerida por Folk (1974) y a la clasificación composicional sugerida por Vernette (1982) permitió diferenciar 32 Litofacies que fueron usadas para generar un mapa preliminar de repartición de facies sedimentarias de la cubierta de la Bahía de Cartagena, en el que se muestra la tendencia y preferencias de distribución de diferentes tipos de sedimento. La existencia de dos tipos de sedimentación; una con porcentajes superiores al 15% en contenido de Carbonato de Calcio en la que se observa un origen fundamentalmente marino que se localiza en sectores puntuales con gran influencia de zonas coralinas y terrazas arrecifales preexistentes, y otra que ocupa la mayor parte del sector estudiado, específicamente las zona correspondiente al centro de la bahía que pertenece a una sedimentación litoclástica de fuente continental, primordialmente aportada por el Canal del Dique.
dc.description.abstractenglishSedimentological and Chemical data obtained from the analysis of 193 samples collected in the interior and in the coastline of the Cartagena Bay with the help of a soft sediment multisamper equipment and a Van Veen dredge sampler, allowed to establish the following observations: A textural and compositional classification of the sediments, based on their granulometric characteristics and their Calcium Carbonate percentage contained in them. The association of terms related to the textural classification suggested by Folk (1974), and to the compositional classification suggested by Vernette (1982) allowed to differentiate 32 lithofacies that were used to generate a preliminary map of sedimentary facies distribution of the Cartagena Bay deck, in which shows the trend and distribution preference of different types of sediment. The existence of two types of sedimentation; the first one with percentages above 15% content of Calcium Carbonate in which there is a predominantly marine origin which are located in specific areas with high influence of coral reef zones and pre-existing terraces, and another one that occupies the most of the studied area, specifically the corresponding area to the center of the bay that belongs to a source of litoclastic continental sedimentation, primarily provided by the Canal del Dique.
