dc.description.abstractenglish | The completion of this research was made possible thanks to the macro project "Latin Imagined Cities and Communities in the Digital Age" proposed and executed by The Latin American Faculty of Social Sciences (FLACSO - Argentina), the Institute of Communication and Culture Studies (IECO) of the National University of Colombia, and the research group on Culture and Narrative in Colombia (Cuynaco) of the Industrial University of Santander (UIS). The historical commercial character of the Metropolitan Area of Bucaramanga brought a series of alterations in how residents perceive, inhabit, and relate to urban space. Therefore, the present study aims to describe the urban imaginaries of the Metropolitan Area of Bucaramanga based on the sensory interactions of the inhabitants within the city. The research is framed within the mixed paradigm with a semiotic anthropology approach based on the semiotic analysis of culture. To capture the greatest number of perspectives, a survey was employed as a tool for data collection. The analysis allowed for the identification of the imaginaries and the reconstruction, based on these, of the urban space where the inhabitants move. Thus, it was concluded that: 1) the colors that identify the city are influenced by associations with natural and architectural elements, as well as being the product of the football and cumbia culture born in the shantytown; 2) the temperate climate that identifies the city is the result of the static memory that resides in the collective memory of the inhabitants; and 3) there is a preference and presence of citizens in economically wealthy scenarios, as well as a rejection of neglected spaces that imply risk dynamics.
