dc.description.abstract	La investigación expuesta a lo largo de este documento tuvo lugar en la Mesa de los Santos en Santander. Su objetivo principal fue evaluar el abatimiento de las aguas subterráneas presentes en esa meseta. La investigación se desarrolló en tres etapas. En la primera etapa se caracterizaron los principales puntos de agua que están siendo aprovechados por la comunidad, para esto se buscó información histórica de puntos de recolección de agua subterránea ubicados en la Mesa de los Santos, recopilada por INGEOMINAS y un proyecto de investigación de estudiantes UIS realizado en el 2016. Así mismo, se hizo una visita de campo para seleccionar los pozos y aljibes que se monitorearon durante el tiempo de investigación. En la segunda etapa se verificaron las direcciones de flujo del agua subterránea mediante mapas de isopiezas creados en el software QGIS, con los cuales se obtuvieron las cotas en toda la superficie. Por último, en la tercera etapa, mediante el análisis estadístico de los resultados, se logró identificar el cambio en el nivel del agua de cada pozo. Se evidenció que el nivel freático descendió en 9 de las 13 captaciones estudiadas, y por lo tanto, estas captaciones presentaron abatimiento, lo cual es muestra de explotación continua del recurso hídrico subterráneo contenido en el acuífero superior de la Mesa de los Santos. Por otro lado, las direcciones de flujo parecen mantenerse iguales por el momento mostrando una disminución uniforme del nivel de las aguas subterráneas. La información recopilada en este estudio amplía el conocimiento del estado real de los sistemas de almacenamiento de las aguas subterráneas en la zona y es una herramienta valiosa para que la comunidad y las autoridades implementen soluciones para prevenir o controlar el agotamiento de esta fuente de agua.
dc.description.abstractenglish	This research was developed in la Mesa de los Santos in Santander and has as main objective to evaluate the of groundwater depletion in this area. The research has three phases. In the first stage, the main water points that are being used by the community were characterized, based on historical information from groundwater inventories compiled by INGEOMINAS and a student research project from UIS carried out in 2016. Likewise, a field visit was made to select the wells and cisterns that were monitored during the research period. In the second phase, the groundwater flow directions were verified using isopiece maps created in the QGIS software. Finally, in the third phase involved the statistical analysis of the results to identify the change in the water level of each well. It was evidenced that the water table fell in 9 of the 13 studied wells, and therefore, these intakes showed depletion, which is a sign of continuous exploitation of the groundwater resource contained in the upper aquifer of the Mesa de los Santos. On the other hand, the flow directions remained the same during the studied period, showing a uniform lowering of the groundwater level. The information collected in this study expands the knowledge of the real state of the groundwater storage systems in the area and is a valuable tool for the community and the authorities to implement solutions to prevent or control the depletion of this water source.
