dc.description.abstractenglish | We show the Ramsey theorems and two generalizations of these, the Nash-Williams theorem and Galvin’s theorem. Let S be a set and p,r positive integers. A coloring is a function c : [S]? > {1,...,r}, where [S]? represents the setof subsets of S with p elements. We say that a set A C S is monochromatic or homogeneous if c is constant in [A]?.When S is infinite, the infinite Ramsey theorem states that for every coloring of [S]’, there exists an infinite subsetA CS such that A is monochromatic. The finite Ramsey theorem is a similar result for finite sets, and is provenusing the infinite Ramsey theorem. To illustrate the finite Ramsey theorem, we show the relationship between the colorings of [S]? and the colorings of the segments of the complete graph with n vertex, where |5| =n. We will show that the Nash-Williams and Galvin’s theorems are in fact generalizations of the infinite Ramseytheorem. In other words, it is possible to prove the infinite Ramsey theorem by assuming that the Nash-Williamsor the Galvin’s theorem is true. The Nash-Williams and Galvin’s theorems are results about the monochromaticsets of a given family ¥ of finite subsets of N. For the Galvin’s theorem the definition of monochromatic willchange abruptly since it will no longer depend on a coloring of .¥, but only on .¥. Thus, in this case the term homogenous makes more sense.
