dc.description.abstract	El servicio de urgencias de la clínica FOSCAL es centro de referencia en salud para todo el Nororiente Colombiano, y a medida que pasa el tiempo, la capacidad instalada del sistema se vuelve insuficiente frente a toda la demanda que llega requiriendo servicios médicos eficaces e inmediatos. El presente trabajo de grado muestra los resultados del diseño e implementación de un plan de mejoramiento para la ruta de atención del paciente en el sistema de urgencias. Utilizando herramientas cualitativas y cuantitativas propias de la ingeniería industrial, se realizó el diagnóstico inicial en el cual se identificaron factores internos que impactan directamente el desempeño y eficiencia del servicio, se evidenció que la principal área de contención de pacientes es Triage, además de otros aspectos como la falta de articulación con el área de estadística, dificultando la toma de decisiones, la tercerización de servicios de imágenes médicas que prolonga el diagnóstico y tratamiento de los pacientes, etc. Con base en el diagnóstico, las propuestas que se presentan buscan impactar las causas de las problemáticas identificadas en cada uno de los procesos que hacen parte de la ruta del paciente, estas incluyen el desarrollo de un modelo de simulación para la reasignación de personal médico en el área de Triage y consulta, la automatización de procesos repetitivos mediante SAP Scripting, la creación de formularios que permitan agilizar la atención en ventanilla, etc. La propuesta de reasignación de personal médico en el área de Triage y consulta fue implementada, monitoreada a través de un sistema de indicadores y socializada con el personal de la clínica. Los resultados obtenidos muestran una reducción del tiempo de espera en Triage y consulta del 13% y 14.29%, respectivamente.
dc.description.abstractenglish	The emergency department at the FOSCAL clinic is a healthcare reference center for the entire Northeastern region of Colombia. Over time, the system's installed capacity has become insufficient to meet the growing demand for effective and immediate medical services. This thesis presents the results of the design and implementation of an improvement plan for the patient care pathway within the emergency system. Using both qualitative and quantitative tools from industrial engineering, an initial diagnosis was conducted, identifying internal factors that directly impact the service's performance and efficiency. The analysis revealed that the primary bottleneck is the Triage area, along with other issues such as the lack of coordination with the statistics department, which hinders decision-making, and the outsourcing of medical imaging services, which delays patient diagnosis and treatment, among others. Based on this diagnosis, the proposed solutions aim to address the root causes of the identified problems in each process within the patient care pathway. These include developing a simulation model to reallocate medical staff in the Triage and consultation areas, automating repetitive processes through SAP Scripting, and creating forms to streamline patient check-in. The proposal to reassign medical staff in the Triage and consultation areas was implemented, monitored through a performance indicator system, and shared with the clinic staff. The results show a reduction in wait times for Triage and consultation by 13% and 14.29%, respectively.
