dc.description.abstractLos jardines verticales representan una solución ante los crecientes problemas que afectan el medio ambiente, ya que integran la vegetación al entorno urbano aprovechando diferentes sectores normalmente inutilizados. A pesar de las múltiples ventajas de la integración de vegetación en las superficies de los edificios, se debe estudiar la manera óptima de implementarlos y sus posibles problemas. El presente documento muestra los resultados de una revisión sistemática de literatura donde se estudiaron las características de los jardines verticales y sus efectos, en base a esto y considerando las características del lugar de aplicación fue determinado los tipos de jardín vertical que mejor se ajustaran, una vez establecido los tipos de jardín vertical se plantean alternativas de diseño para su aplicación al edificio de Laboratorios pesados de la Universidad Industrial de Santander (UIS). Se concluyó que las mejores alternativas son las fachadas verdes, debido principalmente a su bajo costo y baja necesidad de mantenimiento. Por último, se realiza la caracterización de las posibles zonas de aplicación de jardines verticales en el campus central de la UIS. Los resultados de esta investigación muestran que los jardines verticales, bajo un correcto diseño pueden ser una efectiva técnica para contrarrestar los problemas ambientales que conlleva el crecimiento de los centros urbanos.
dc.description.abstractenglishVertical gardens represent a solution to the growing problems that affect the environment, since they integrate the vegetation into the urban environment, taking advantage of different normally unused sectors. Despite the multiple advantages of the integration of vegetation in the surfaces of the buildings, the optimal way to implement them and their possible problems should be studied. This document shows the results of a systematic literature review where the characteristics of the vertical gardens and their effects were studied, based on this and considering the characteristics of the place of application, the types of vertical garden that best fit were determined. Once the types of vertical garden have been established, design alternatives are proposed for application to the Laboratorios Pesados building of the Universidad Industrial de Santander (UIS). It was concluded that the best alternatives are green facades, mainly due to their low cost and low maintenance needs. Finally, the characterization of the possible application areas of vertical gardens on the central campus of the UIS is carried out. The results of this research show that vertical gardens, under a correct design, can be an effective technique to counteract the environmental problems associated with the growth of urban centers.
