dc.description.abstractenglish | Spinoza aims his investigation to the knowledge of the true causes of our actions and passion. In this attempt, exposes a general organization immanent to the eternal and infinite substance, which causes itself and everything else. In this structure, men find their place as finite modes: those which express in a certain and determinate way the essence of the substance. From this point of view, men derive from substance and are determinated to act, as it is as well. Therefore, it is not possible to think that happiness could be directed to something different than the achievement to that determination. The memory is part of the firs type of knowledge, understood like inadequate. For that reason, it is not possible to know our way of functioning using the memory. An effort to develop our power of understanding will derive in an existence with its power directed, as much as it is possible, to its conservation, in despite of the continuous forces that has to face during its existence that has to fac e during its existence that could determine its own end. Consequently, the memory is useful to men, just because it allows men to be affected constantly by. Those things that intensify their power. It is as well useful as the testimony of an experience of an action that carries other actions, that is, an experience in which a man recognizes himself as a part of nature that is also able to determine in some way his actions by his own nature.
