dc.description.abstractenglish | When talking about metallic structures and mechanical systems, during the design process, the dynamic and static loads to which the design will be subjected must be taken into account. Mechanical properties are a decisive factor in the selection of materials. In manufacturing, welding is commonly used as a permanent fastening method. It is generally defined by AWS as the coalescence between 2 or more materials by heating to fission temperature with or without pressure and with or without filler material. The generation of heat-affected zones and the microstructural changes are the product of thermal stress, generating changes in the mechanical properties of the base material. Fatigue strength requires destructive tests that are time consuming and costly for its determination. In the present investigation, a correlation between tensile strength and fatigue strength of butt welded joints in ASTM A36 structural steel under the Gas Metal Arc Welding process is established. Standardized applications were carried out for the generation of welded specimens and control material for tests of mechanical properties of tensile strength and fatigue strength under ASTM E8/E8M and ASTM606/E606M standards. It was possible to establish a logarithmic correlation in which N is the number of cycles as a function of ε as the unit strain, which may contribute to the structural integrity and reliability of equipment subjected to static or dynamic loads.
